Milton The Toaster

Who remembers the good old days
when Kellogg's Pop-Tarts had Milton the Toaster
as a pitchman?
watch the commercial here  and  here
I loved the idea that my toaster could talk to me
and tell me how great Pop-Tarts are.
Milton was voiced by the talented
and fatherly William Schallert
from 1969-1979.
Milton was just so lovable you could just hug him.
(One of the reasons he was
eventually dropped as a character...
kids shouldn't hug hot toasters)
In his heyday Milton could do anything,
just look at his little promo puzzles.
and Paper Premiums that came
in the Pop-Tart boxes.
He was a very active, outgoing toaster.
Oh how I wanted a Milton in my home.
I missed out on the 1980 Milton
plastic bank mail-in promo.

Probably because we never had many
Pop-Tarts in the house when I was growing up.
Or perhaps because of this slightly
scary ad set to run in the Sunday comics
on May 18, 1980.

Fast forward to 2012
I was be-bopping around the Internet
and came upon a site called
and spied this photo ....
It was my old friend Milton,
 as a ceramic cookie jar!!!!
How did I not know about this???
I wanted one post haste!
Frantic googling for more info led me to this...
Back in 2005 Kelloggstore.com
Celebrated Kellogg's 100th anniversary
with a few collectibles and Milton
was one of the offerings...
A Milton plate $7.95, a Milton mug $7.95, and
a Milton cookie jar $16.95
That was several years ago and there is
very little hope that they will
ever restock, even though the site
still says "notify me when in stock".
My only hope now was Ebay!
That brings us to this Valentine's Day,
a little belated, but Sam was able to find
a "buy it now" Milton Cookie Jar on Ebay
for $45.00 and $11.90 shipping!
She bought it for me right then!
SQUEEEE!
A little pricey yes, but, there's one on there now
for $75 and $15.00 shipping.
My Milton now happily resides in the
Ozark cookie jar collection.
He brings back memories of Saturday
morning cartoon watching.
See his Kellogg's 100th Anniversary sticker?
Here's a closeup of his logo.
And a shot of his underside.
It says it right there...He's Vintage!
I'll bet now we'll be tempted to eat more Pop-Tarts.
He just won't shut up about them, and they
do look awful tasty popping out of his top!

If you're in the mood for some
Milton the Toaster collectibles
Kelloggstore.com was offering this nifty
distressed compact lunch box for just $12.95
Or you can keep an eye open on Ebay
for another Milton to pop up!

Thanks for stopping by
and happy hunting!

The After Valentine's Candy Haul

Sam and I choose to celebrate
Valentine's Day on the 15th.
We have the fun of a Black Friday sale
without all the crowds.
Check out this year's haul!
all for under $14.00
Cher was shocked!!!

Actually I caught her mid yawn
while she was begging...
sadly, dogs can't have chocolate.
She gets a bacon treat instead.

Hope you all had a great day.

Happy Valentine's Day 2014

Just reappropriating my Cupid from a year ago
into a cute saying I found online.
Hope you all have a very sweet day!

A New Rug

In our ongoing mission to redecorate the
"India Inspired" living room,
we are just thrilled when Sam and I come across
something that we both like and the price is right.
Yesterday we found just such an item!
A NEW RUG!
We found it at Tuesday Morning.
It's by Chelsea Home and
almost 8' X 10' and was only $199.00.
It's made with a mixture of both
looped and cut pile,
so it gives it a sculpted feel with
high and low areas.
The colors are close to perfect
for everything we have going on in the room.
From the green in the Pier 1 Minhou Cabinet,
to the spicy orange in the
Howard Miller accent table,
to all the colors in the tapestry
and on the pot shelf.
Not quit the same rug we
had picked out on our idea board...
which is long gone anyway.
This one is bigger and more interesting!
What do you think?

and happy hunting!

Our Winter Valance

We've had this apple valance for a while now
It's the one we put up for the winter after the
Christmas one comes down.
Like all our other valances it was designed by
Sam's coworker friend Eden.
Sam and I found the fabric at Walmart,
it came in three different apple patterns.
Eden also made pillows for the window bench,
check out the cool little
apple basket buttons.

She also created a table runner for the buffet.
We found the apple cookie jar at Mervin's.
I found the mouth watering chocolate cake,
cake safe at Marshall's.
Up on the hutch we find a new
salt and pepper set from Fitz and Floyd.
I saw the set on Ebay and it reminded me
of The Cracker Barrel restaurant with its
country rocking chairs and barrels.
Sam won it for my birthday.
We also have a great little apple wreath
above the hutch.
We found it at Michael's and added the
blue checked ribbon to match the valance.
Here on the table, are Eden's double sided place mats.
The table is full of my cover letters and resumés.
I lost my tee shirt job this January when the shop
was closed, sold and moved.
The new owner didn't want an in-house artist.
Know anyone who needs a Corel Draw artist?
The day after I lost my job was my birthday!
Sam treated me to a "Despicable Me"
Minions cake to cheer me up!
 It did!
Elvis and I both got a hair cut this month.
Mines for job interviews.
