Day of the Bathroom

Sam got into the Halloween spirit this year 
and added a few new things to her bathroom.

After a trip to Kohl's last month we discovered

some really cool Dia de los Muertos 

bathroom accessories.

 Sam just loved the colors 
so we quickly ordered a set.

A colorful shower curtain decorated with

sugar skulls, cat heads, and pumpkins,

a festive sugar skull rug and 

matching hand towels,

and a nifty sugar skull soap pump.

Our store didn't have the 

Day of the Dead items in stock,

but if we ordered them in store,to be 
sent to our home, shipping was free!

You can't beat that!

A little later on we discovered Target 

also had a few cool Day of the Dead 

items of their own!

These precious little figurines

came dressed in a verity of colors. 

Sam felt they would fit perfectly

into her new theme,

hurry and get one here

along with this green routed out tin 

candle holder also from Target.

I put an LED candle with timer inside

 to light for four hours every night! 

It creates a spooky glow 

till you turn on the light!

The holder matches her 

green mercury glass pumpkin 

from a few years ago.

Kohl's also had other Day 

of the Dead non bathroom items 

that were pretty hard to resist!

For now, it will be hard but,

The Headless Horseman Snow Globe

From HomeGoods...

to my home!

The Headless Horseman Snow Globe 

with LED lighted jack o' lantern.

It finally makes a frightfully awesome 
debut on the front room table.

After Pumpkin Rot featured the one he found 
on his blog HERE, I just had to have one too.

After a three year search with many dead ends,
we can now add "Snow Globe" to the 
Ozark list of larks in the collection.

Something Old, Something New, and Something Blue!

Now presenting the traditional

yearly photo of the Halloween hutch buffet,

featuring lots of "old" and 

a couple of "new" and even one thing blue.

It's the old blue haunted house cookie jar

we purchased from Dillard's in '02.

One of my first Halloween purchases 

when I started this bizarre collection. 

I had always displayed it on the

old computer cabinet in the past.

However with it gone, 

the jar needed a new home, I found a perfect spot 

on top of the hutch, precisely where the gingerbread 

house resides at Christmas time.

Over to the right we find something new,

 The Hallmark Dia De Los Muertos 

sugared cat head ornament.

What a happy smile and festive face!

It's always fun to incorporate a little more

Day of the Dead celebration into the mix.

Now for this year's piéce de résistance,

a gift from Sam for our anniversary,

and the prize of a frenzied Ebay bidding war.

The Dept 56 "Fearnology treat jar" by G. R. Ruesome 

with google eyes and laughing noise!

It has a high pitched laugh like a crazed lunatic 

when you lift the lid.

Inspired by the ancient art of Phrenology, the 

pseudoscience study of the structure of the skull to 

determine a person's character and mental capacity.  

The "Fearnology" Treat Jar is a fun new take 

on this zany old practice from the Dept 56

"Frankenstein's Lab" collection. 

The ceramic skull is divided into sections with

labels such as "Ghostly Reflective Faculties" 

and "Creepy and Ghoulish Sentiments".

Retired in 2007 and the ugliest thing ever, 

I've been wanting one for the past four years. 

And thanks to my loving wife, 

I can now add it to the rest of the Ozark

 Frankenstein and google eye collection!

New Goodies on the Halloween Pantry

This Halloween the dry goods pantry acquired a few

new additions and inherited a few old ones.

In the past I would decorate the old 

computer armoire with Halloween nick knacks

and a black cat runner.

But we gave it away this year 

in favor a much larger computer desk.

So I had to integrate its items into other

displays. One being the dry goods pantry...

I added in the Fiesta pumpkin candle holders

with skeleton tapers, the Fiesta black cat bowl, and 

the black cat and pumpkin runner.

It sort of has a "Blair Witch" feel with 

the skeleton candles acting like creepy 

sentinels guarding the witch's house.

Not sure I like that.

This wide shot shows the new plate Sam 

and I found at Hobby Lobby this year.

As well as this new country farm themed 

framed picture from Kirkland's called 

"Pumpkins for Sale" by Billy Jacobs.

It really gives the whole scene 

an eerie farm country vibe.

I moved last year's smaller country picture 

up behind the Fitz and Floyd 

"Halloween Harvest Dracula"  

Now it feels like he's out in the country too.

After some thought, I decided to lighten the 

mood of the pantry scene, so I switched the

skeleton candles to 

the dining table with the apothecary candy jars,

and the Dept 56 crows in party hats

and corn taper candles to the pantry.

 

It now has a much lighter, more whimsical, feel  

and the corn and crows still incorporate 

seamlessly into the farm theme.

Come on, they're crows in party hats! 

How fun is that!

Dracula got a friend to join him too...

the Fitz and Floyd "Halloween Harvest 

Cat and Pumpkin" S&P shakers.

I think they scale better next to Dracula, 

 they looked huge next to the house cookie jar.
