It's the Spode Christmas Tree Village

Train Station Cookie Jar circa 2002.

It's part of the Christmas Tree village line.

There are always quite a few available on Ebay

at any one time with a wide range of prices.

I would love to have it in my kitchen at Christmas time.

Once one listed with the description 

"Only used as a display in the window of my bakery"

D'awwwww!

Isn't that so charming?  Can you just imagine this little

building sitting in a bake shop window 

as part of a Christmas display?

It makes me want it even more.

Plus it's a train station!

That's one of J.T. Ozark's biggest passions,

Garden Railroading....only I've always been

too afraid to put the trains outside.

Elephants might step on my poor little trains...

They usually end up traveling around

the Christmas tree.

But with this cookie jar, the train theme

can continue on into the kitchen.

I've actually bid on a few in past years,

but the bidding goes over what I'm willing to pay

after factoring in the hefty shipping total.

I've just bid on one again today!

So wish me luck. 

Maybe I will have one in my imaginary

bakery window in time for Christmas.

These kinda look like turkey roadkill,

all flat like that,

but I rather like it. 

It's a turkey platter and desert plates.

And they have dinner and salad plates too

My wife has allowed me to cyber order the turkey cookie jar.

She is warming to the colorful dinner and salad plates.

But I have a ways to go on the flat turkeys...

Thanksgiving Harvest Wreath

My wife and I love creating wreaths.

But for Thanksgiving
we had a simple store bought wreath from Walmart.

It had a scarecrow, plastic pumpkins, some flowers,

and a "Harvest Welcome" sign hot glued to it. 

I was never happy with it and was glad

when the hot glue started to give out.

So we headed to Michael's with a plan 

to design a new fall wreath.

We piked out a leaf garland,

a bouquet of sunflowers, a mixed

fall bouquet, some cattails

(I've always loved cattails since watching Disney's

"The Legend of Sleepy Hollow"

the segment where Ichabod Crane

thinks he hears hoof beats coming for him 

till he discovers it was just cattails pounding on a hollow log)

We also found some small dried maize corn,

some fall ribbons, and a little turkey.

  

Here's the result of our plan.

You can see we did reuse the"Harvest Welcome" sign.

I must say, it looks way better on a much nicer wreath.

Time for Turkeys

Isn't Thanksgiving wonderful?

I know there are many elements to Thanksgiving

but for some reason I seem to be stuck
on collecting turkeys.

There's a turkey stained glass light

purchased on Ebay in the summertime.

I tried to bid on a few during November that year

but it always ended in a bidding war,

and prices went over $100....

The following summer I thought

I would just, on a whim, 
check Ebay for the turkey lamp

and to my surprise one was just sitting there!

I was the only bidder and got it for $25.

I guess timing is everything.

The Hutch/Buffet is full of turkeys.

I've collected a lot of Fitz and Floyd

from many different lines.
That's the covered vegetable dish
from Autumn Bounty,

I found mine at Tuesday Morning.
Next to it is a pumpkin cookie jar
that got picked up at Mervin's

along with the pumpkin tea pot.
The creamer gourd

and sugar gourd

are Autumn Splendor from F&F.
The corn cob vase is from Pier 1
and the turkey platter
was a giveaway from the
South Point Casino
 

The turkey cranberry server is a
Country Gourmet F&F piece.
Next to him is the little turkey candle
holder by Bordallo Pinheiro

I love that line but only have the one piece...
found him at Ross.

We also have Turkey plates
from the Johnson Bros. His Majesty line.
The golden plates are from Kohl's this year,
they have colorful pumpkins, vines, and acorns
in bas-relief on the rim.

The gourds in the front
are covered soup bowls from Williams-Sonoma
I hunted them down on Ebay after seeing them
on The Tablescaper blog.

The little turkey snack plate is from Pier 1 last year

but I did see them there this year.

on the top shelf is a
Harvest Turkey cranberry server.

 

He is from Warren Kimble
and

I found these Radko turkey
salt and pepper shakers
on Ebay years ago.
It's sad that Radko just doesn't
make things like this anymore.
Moving on to the dry goods pantry
I've displayed

a Woodland turkey centerpiece by Spode.
His lid is much too big and cumbersome
to be a cookie jar, or even a serving dish.
I guess that's why he's called a "centerpiece".

Finally next to the turkey lamp,
I set out a little Dept 56 
snow village House called
the Scarecrow Harvest Festival

I like their fall village houses

which have leaves in place of snow.

Look closely at that weather vein...

there's even a turkey on it.

I must try to expand my collection

to feature a little more then turkeys.

My wife would like to see some

Pilgrims standing around

I'll keep my eye open for some.

Fall Valance

With the temperature cooling in Vegas

and the recent time change,

plus the fact that Halloween is over,

it is time to change the valance to fall.

Another beautiful job by my wife's friend, Eden.

She made this valance 9 years ago for us.

We bought the fabric at Walmart. 

It's full of pumpkins, cows, sunflowers,

and other farm animals.

The burgundy band has a handkerchief

pattern on it.

 Eden even made us little accent pillows

that sit on the window bench.

I just love the fall colors.

Fall is in the air

This is my little chihuahua/papillon mix Cher.

She is enjoying exploring in the fall leaves of our Vegas peach tree!
